UST Secretary-General Rev. fr. Louie R. Coronel, O.P, EHL celebrated the Holy Mass in the Time of Pandemic on August 27, 2021 at the Santisimo Rosario Parish via livestream.

Thomasian-brand of love

In his homily, fr. Coronel alluded to the Tria Haec statues atop the Main Building facade, underscoring that Love is the greatest among Faith and Hope. The Secretary-General said the Thomasian community is here to extend its love to the fellow Thomasians who are enduring and persevering in this health crisis for two years now. 鈥淲e are here because we want to extend our love for you, dear Thomasians,鈥 fr. Coronel said.

In the middle of his homily, fr. Coronel paused to pray and to commemorate the Thomasians who joined our Creator in heaven. 鈥淲e remember all these people who have contributed in our formation as Thomasians,鈥 he said.

God’s love brings clarity

When one feels deep sorrow and abandonment, according to fr. Coronel, the Lord is already there to bring light as long as they try to focus and feel His love. “The Lord is there already, entering the cracks of our hearts, entering our hearts. We need to feel God everytime. We should not be focusing on the pandemic alone, but most especially on the love of God,” he said.

“When we see everything in the love of God, everything would be clearer. Our mission would be clearer. Our endeavors would be inspired because that it is out of love. When we walk, we walk together as Thomasians. And we should not carry unnecessary weights; we should learn to let go of useless baggage,” the concurrent College of Science Regent said.

Moreover, according to fr. Coronel, one must not be ashamed for bearing the wounds caused by this pandemic for it is out of love. 鈥淢ay mga wounds tayo because of the pandemic. Do not be ashamed of those wounds. That wounds are out of love,” he said.听“Ang mga sundalo, kapag nasusugatan, tumatapang. Pero tayo, mga taga-sunod ni Kristo, mga Tomasino, habang nasusugatan, kahit nasasaktan, lalong nagmamahal,鈥 fr. Coronel said.

Love will guide you to your dreams

Fr. Coronel echoed on today鈥檚 Gospel and encouraged both the students and the teachers to know their roles and, most importantly, never abandon their respective missions. Likewise, he encouraged everyone to continue holding on to love because it will serve as a compass that will guide them to their dreams.

“Kung ikaw po ay teacher, tayo po ay magturo nang mabuti even though life is challenging,鈥 fr. Coronel said. 鈥淜ung ikaw ay student, please study hard. Because the humankind, they are waiting for your expertise, for your competence. We can be sanctified by the things and the endeavors we are doing at the moment. We continue holding on to love.鈥 he added.

The Holy Mass in the Time of Pandemic was an initiative of the Office of the Vice-Rector for Religious Affairs.

In celebration of the Year of the Youth, the 91性息港 honored and venerated blood relic of St. Pope John Paul II from May 15 to 16, 2019 at the and at the Main Building canopy.

On Living Life with Magnitude
In his homily during the solemnity mass, former Rector Rev. Fr. Rolando V. de la Rosa, O.P. differentiated the saint from celebrities, 鈥淭he saint does not recede into the past. He remains a person of the present. Saint is not just remembered, he is addressed.鈥

鈥淲e bring him [the saint] our deepest pain, our requests for healing, and our praises to God,鈥 he said.

Moreover, according to de la Rosa, St. Pope John Paul II taught us how to die. 鈥淚f you want to die a happy death, if we want to be assured of remembrance even if we are no longer here, love. Show the unconditional love of God, and feel how much God loves you.鈥

The Wounded Healer

Santisimo Rosario Parish Parochial Administrator and Regent Rev. Fr. Louie R. Coronel, O.P. said in the concluding mass that St. Pope John Paul鈥檚 鈥渨oundedness鈥 led him to his devotion to the Church.

鈥淗e saw poverty in Tondo and the refugees to Bataan. For him, that is woundedness in the Church,鈥 Coronel said.

In 1981, St. Pope John Paul II survived the assassination attempt by Ali Agca at the St. Peter鈥檚 Square. After recovering from the incident, St. Pope John Paul II visited Agca behind the bars to forgive him.

The two kept in touch until the Pope鈥檚 death.

鈥淚t was his woundedness that healed Ali Agca, which transformed his heart,鈥 Coronel said.

Moreover, St. Pope John Paul II asked for forgiveness for millenia鈥檚 worth of the Church鈥檚 wrongdoings, including the excommunication of Galileo, and the persecution of Jews. 鈥淗e himself is wounded but with that kind of gesture, he is healing.鈥

鈥淗e travelled to the continents of the world to tell the world of His love,鈥 Coronel said.

Born Karol Josef Wojtyla, St. Pope John Paul II passed away on April 2, 2005. He visited the University in 1981 to beatify St. Lorenzo Ruiz, and in 1995 to celebrate the closing mass of the World Youth Day Tour.

The devotees venerated the blood relic after the mass to see it one last time in the UST grounds, until it was returned to the Archdiocese of Manila.

In a solemn rite followed by a concelebrated Eucharistic celebration on January 12, 2016 (Tuesday), Rev. Fr. Louie R. Coronel, O.P. was installed as the 14th Parish Priest of the Sant铆simo Rosario Parish by His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, D.D.

Fr. Coronel, whose appointed was signed on October 5, 2015, succeeds Fr. Franklin F. Beltran, O.P., who served for six years. The appointment was read by the Prior Provincial of the Dominican Province of the Philippines, the Very Rev. Fr. Gerard Francisco P. Timoner III, O.P.

In his homily, Cardinal Tagle relied on the readings about Samuel and Anna to emphasize that with God鈥檚 mercy, people鈥檚 lives can go from being barren to being blessed. He reflected that in an age when so much is expected of priests, it is only through God鈥檚 grace that they can continue their ministry. Directing his message to Fr. Coronel, the Archbishop of Manila vowed to support the former and the Parish in the exercising of their ministry.

In his message of thanks, the newly installed Parish Priest paid homage to the Lord, the patrons of the Parish and the Dominican Order, as well as the priests, nuns, and seminarians who assist him and the Parish. He likewise thanked the different lay organizations. Fr. Coronel will serve a term of three years.
