Theology Week 2021: Building the Church, the Dominican Way

In celebration of Theology Week 2021, the Faculty of Sacred Theology will hold the second of its “Build the Church in a Dominican Way” series, which will be held on Dec. 1-4, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., via Zoom and Facebook live.

With the theme “Preserving in Fidelity to their Founding Charism and to the splendid Tradition of which they are Theirs”, in reference to Pope Francis’ Praedicator Gratiae, this three-day conference will host plenary sessions featuring speakers who will discuss the Order’s contributions past and present to the Catholic Church, Science, and Nation-Building.

On December 1, 2021, Rev. fr. Efren O. Rivera, O.P. will lecture on the 鈥淭urning Points in the Teaching of Sacred Scriptures: 1965-2001鈥, while Vice-Rector for Finance Rev. fr. Roberto L. Luanzon, Jr., O.P., SThL, DL will lecture on the 鈥淟iturgical Inculturation and the Dominican Rituals after the Second Vatican Council鈥. Rev. Fr. Emilio Edgardo Quilatan, OAR will lecture on 鈥渢he Dominicans in the History of the Augustinian Recollects鈥, while Rev. fr. Jessie Yap, O.P. will lecture on the 鈥淓stablishment of the Dominican Presence (1881-1631): First Evangelization of the Philippines鈥.

On December 2, 2021, University Archivist Prof. Regalado Trota Jose, MCH will lecture on 鈥淭racing the Tangible Heritage of the First Century of the Dominicans in the Philippines鈥. UST Museum Director Rev. fr. Isidro C. Aba帽o, SThL-MA will lecture on the 鈥淧edagogical Ministry for the Cultural Heritage of the Church in the 91性息港鈥. Rev. fr. Wenifredo V. Padilla III, O.P. will lecture on 鈥淩eaffirming the Biblical Understanding of Marital Indissolubility as a Proposal for Celebrating the Gift of 500 Years of Christianity in the Philippines鈥, while Rev. fr. Fausto B. Gomez, O.P. will talk about the 鈥淐hristianity in the Philippines: UST鈥檚 Contribution in Bioethics鈥.

On December 3, 2021, Dominican Molecular Biologist Rev. fr. Nicanor Pier Giorgio R. Austriaco, O.P., PhD, SThD will lecture on the 鈥淰irtues of Filipino Bioethics and the Common Good鈥, while Rev. fr. Roland D. Mactal, O.P., Regent of College of Tourism and Hospitality Management, will discuss the 鈥淒ominican Influence in the Philippines in terms of the Marian Piety of the People: Yesterday, Today, and Beyond the 500 Years of Christianity鈥. Faculty of Sacred Theology Dead Rev. fr. Rodel E. Aligan, O.P. will lecture on 鈥淯ST鈥檚 Contribution to the Development of Moral Theology in the Philippines鈥 and finally, Rev. fr. Cecilio Vladimir Magboo, O.P. will lecture on the 鈥淧rospects of Ecumenism as a Ministry of the Order of the Preachers in the Philippines鈥.
